Dr. John Mark Dempsey

Dr. John Mark Dempsey is an associate professor of radio-television at Texas A&M University-Commerce and head of the Department of Mass Media, Communication and Theatre. He has published four books, The Jack Ruby Trial Revisited: The Diary of Jury Foreman Max Causey; The Light Crust Doughboys Are on the Air!;  Eddie Barker’s Notebook: Stories That Made the News (and Some Better Ones That Didn’t!); and Sports Talk Radio in America: Its Context and Culture.

Dr. Dempsey has worked in radio broadcasting since 1975, when he was the first student to broadcast on the University’s FM station, KETR.  He has served as a radio news anchor and producer for the Texas State Network in Dallas since 1998.

He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from East Texas State University and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Dempsey’s wife Tricia and children Jenny and Mike live in rural Delta County, east of Commerce, with assorted horses, cats and dogs.
