Harlem Renaissance

The Harlem Renaissance, an era between 1917-1935, redefined African American expression on all levels. The Renaissance served as one of America's most extreme cultural turning points.

The Harlem Renaissance wrote a new chapter in American History. With this, it accentuated the African American spirit with such precision and circumscribed new styles of protest.

  1. The students will understanding, through literary works, the meaning of the Harlem Renaissance.

  2. The students will attempt to understand when the Renaissance started and why it happened.

  3. The students will examine the results of the Renaissance as it relates historically to America in the twenties.

ACTIVITIES:

  1. Have students read book and several class discussions about book.

  2. Have students examine Internet sites and write about the reflections of sites.

  3. Have students search Internet about a writer, artist, political figure, or performing artist of their choice during the Harlem Renaissance.

  4. Have students create research paper in HTML format.
