TITLE:
File Attachment Using Netscape Mail
SUBJECT:

OBJECTIVES:
- Attach a text file to an e-mail message
- Attach a graphic file to an e-mail message
RESOURCES/MATERIALS:
- Computer with Netscape Mail Program
- Files to be attached
ACTIVITIES:
- List reasons why participant would want to attach files to e-mail
- Exchange photos of students or of school with another class
- Send stories or pictures back and forth for critiques
- Share overhead slides or lesson plans with other teachers
- Share Hyperstudio stacks
- Explain differences between a text file and a non-text file
- Text files are plain text possibly with a ".txt" extension (ex- word processor files )
- Non-text can include sound, video clips, and graphics of many kinds (ex - gif, jpg )
- Explain that the person that receives your e-mail attachment must have the same type of computer or program compatible with the files you send.
- She wont be able to view a ".gif" you sent if she doesn't have a program that opens such images
- Step by step instructions to attach a file using Netscape Mail
- Open Netscape Mail
- Click on "Mail To: " icon
- File out "Mail To: " and "Subject:" fields as usual
- Click on "Attachment" button
- When dialog box appears click on "Attach File"
- When the next dialog box appears search your directories for the file you want to attach and the double click it
- Your file now appears in the dialog box. Click "OK"

- Click "Send"
FOLLOW-UP:
Participants will send trainer an e-mail attachment. A handout will be given to each participant with a step by step instruction. During follow-up sessions participants can practice sending attachments to each other.
