MATERIALS: Internet connection using a graphical interface (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.), word processor (such as ClarisWorks, etc.), printer

PROCEDURE: Have the students students go to Elementary Science This Month. Scroll down to "Animal of the Month" and click to access a picture and information about a different monthly animal. Have students read the information about the animal making notes of important information.

Have your students use Yahoo! Search Engine to search for other sites that have your animals name to find more information on their animals. Enter the word "animal" and your animal's name to narrow the search somewhat. What other information can your students find? How does it compare with the previously mentioned site's information?

When your student finds a site with relevant information, have her record information for the following topics:

Classification: Mammal Bird Reptile Fish Insect etc.
Habitat:
Enemies:
Prey:
Description:
Where found:
Life Span:
Unique Information:
URL References:

Be creative! Having students to do real-world activities will not only increase motivation but will encourage the students to share their findings with others.
	Language Arts	Geography	Math	Vocabulary
	Have students create a song or poem to share with the class that will teach 5 important facts about the animal chosen.	Have students locate and label different animals on a class map according to their countries.	Have students graph their findings of different animals comparing their weights, grown heights, or life spans.	Have students create crossword puzzles using vocabulary that pertains to a chosen animal.
