LESSON PLAN: Ask an Expert

GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 7th and 8th grade Resource Math.

OVERVIEW: This lesson is designed to get students involved and excited about math.

MATERIALS: Students will need a computer with a word processor on which to compose their letters before getting online.

RESOURCES: Access to the Internet and some type of email program.

OBJECTIVES: The student will learn to use email to send questions involving math to an expert for an answer. This gives the student exercise in language composition and grammar, as well as, showing the relevance of math in our everyday world.

ACTIVITIES: The students will work alone to create their questions using a word processor. After proofing their work, they will have two other students critic their question. After correcting any mistakes, the students will be allowed to go online, to send their questions via email to an expert. Responses will be shared and discussed in class. <
