LESSON PLAN: Endangered Species

GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 7th and 8th grade Resource English.

OVERVIEW: This lesson is designed to get students involved and excited about doing research, specifically research on endangered species.

MATERIALS: Students will need access to the library and paper and pencil for taking notes while browsing.

RESOURCES: Access to the Internet, computer with some sort of presentation program (PowerPoint, Hyperstudio).

OBJECTIVES: The student will learn to use internet search engines, inorder to find information about endangered species. The student will also research, organize, and present information regarding facts related to endangered species. The student will also generalize conditions that have contributed to endangered species. The student will also develop ideas that might help in the preservation of endangered species.

ACTIVITIES: The students will work in pairs, with each pair assigned the same animal. Each pair will be assigned a computer disk, which will be taken up at the end of each class period. Each pair will keep notes on where they found information and which sites they used to gather information. The teacher will simply provide information on technical matters, such as simple web browsing techniques, allowing the students freedom to search for information on their animals.
