GRADE LEVEL/SUBJECT: 7th and 8th grade Resource English.
OVERVIEW: This lesson is designed to get students involved and excited about doing research, specifically research on endangered species.
MATERIALS: Students will need access to the library and paper and pencil for taking notes while browsing.
RESOURCES: Access to the Internet, computer with some sort of presentation program (PowerPoint, Hyperstudio).
Endangered Species A compendium of information about endangered species that can be found on the Interent.
EcoNet's Endangered Species Action and Information guide. A nice collection, not only of information, but of action suggestions too.
Endangered Species Act Fish and Wildlife's page for the Endangered Species Act.
Endangered Species Act (uoregon) Explores the Acts benefits and shortcoming.
ACTIVITIES: The students will work in pairs, with each pair assigned the same animal. Each pair will be assigned a computer disk, which will be taken up at the end of each class period. Each pair will keep notes on where they found information and which sites they used to gather information. The teacher will simply provide information on technical matters, such as simple web browsing techniques, allowing the students freedom to search for information on their animals.
