Webquest Activity
African Vacation Planner
Subject: 6th Grade Social Studies
Objective: Students will use webquest activity to explore the geography and points of interest on the African Continent.
Introduction:
You are an employee of an elite travel magazine. Several travel agencies that advertise in your magazine have requested that your magazine do an article on African travel destinations in order to help them increase the sagging travel market to that region of the world. Your publisher has asked you to research the continent to locate interesting sites for travelers to vacation and write an article for the upcoming issue. He has further requested that you also design a travel brochure that will be used by a subsidiary company of the magazine.
Your task:
You are one of a team of four who will be working on this project. Each of you will examine one of four themes for the article: Historical locations, indigenous peoples, wildlife of Africa, and African arts. This is good because one of you is a historian, a social anthropologist, a wildlife expert, and an art curator. Each will contribute to the article for the magazine and each will contribute a portion of the research to the brochure. Each will also have an individual task of creating a visitors guide for their favorite location from this task.

This quest took you to the geography and culture of various African Countries, observed a multitude of things that one could do in Africa, and seen how the arts of Africa influence the art-world. You have also seen that there is great contrast between the cultures of some of the indigenous people of the continent and therefore and element of diversity that is similar to that of the United States.
