ETEC 557

Integrating Technology throughout the Curriculum

Fall 2009 and Spring 2010

The course will be taught each semester -- the following applies to both.  :-)

Delivery Method:
Online (Internet); all sessions will be online; there will be no face-to-face meetings

Course Descriptions:
ETEC 557 includes an in-depth study of methods for integrating the emerging technologies into specific content areas.  Research, as well as current and future implementation issues, will be investigated, and a program for action will be developed, by all.

Prerequisite: ETEC 524 or consent of the instructor.  A basic knowledge of the use of computers is required.

Class Meetings: All activities will be online, and we will have our online classroom on eCollege.  You will receive instructions about how to log-in to our online classroom before the first day of class.  Please be sure to check your leo (university) mail, because that is where all university correspondence goes.

Assignment messages will be posted in our online classroom each Monday by noon.  Each assignment message will begin by explaining the attendance acknowledgment/verification procedure for the week.  Basically, you will need to send me an e-mail, with the info requested in that week's assignment message.  The attendance acknowledgment message must come in on Monday or Tuesday, for full attendance credit.  This procedure will be explained in the first day's assignment message.  :-)

I will have online office hours each week, at times to be announced, during which you may stop by and ask questions or just talk. We will be using an online section of eCollege that allows us to use both microphones and text chat -- so if you have a microphone you will be able to try it out with our class.   :-)

Hardware/Software Requirements:

  • You will need a reliable working computer, and you will need to know how to use it and either how to troubleshoot or how to find help if there are problems with the computer.  Knowing where to go for help (manuals or people) is an essential computer attack skill, isn't it?   :-)

  • Computer access to the Internet is a necessity -- you must have access where you can get online to at least check e-mail on a daily basis.  Home access is a necessity.  There may be some activities that will require high speed access but if you do not have high-speed access at home, you may want to see if there is another place that you may be able to get online at some points in the semester.  If you wish to use one of the university computer labs, be sure to check to see when the labs have open time.   :-)
  • Some activities will require specific software -- Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and SeaMonkey (an Internet browser) will be required.  Please check to see where you will have access to these programs.  SeaMonkey is available for download (for free) from http://www.seamonkey-project.org/ for Windows and for Mac users, and will be needed later in the semester.
