ETEC 527 - Technologies
for
Instructional Delivery
Spring
2010
|
Delivery Method: Online
(Internet)
Course
Description:
This course investigates the current
and emerging technologies available for instructional delivery.
Included are
components of courses (e.g. computer-assisted instruction, web-quests,
etc.),
as well as methods of delivery in non-face-to-face environments.
Emphasis
will be on the appropriate selection of technologies for various
instructional
settings, with attention to Web 2.0 applications and their role in the
delivery of instruction.
Prerequisite: ETEC 524 or
consent of the instructor.
Class Meetings: There are no
scheduled face-to-face meetings. All activities will be
online, many in our online classroom on eCollege, and some on Moodle,
our online teaching lab. You will receive instructions about how
to log-in to our online classroom before the first day of class.
Please be sure to check your leo (university) mail, because that is
where all university correspondence goes.
Assignment messages will be posted in our online classroom on the first
day of the semester and by noon on each Monday after that. We
will have some organized online group meetings, and I will also have
online office hours each week, at times to be announced, during which
you may stop by and ask questions or just talk. We will be using an
online section of eCollege that allows us to use both microphones and
text chat -- so if you have a microphone you will be able to try it out
with our class. :-)
NOTE: Each
student
must have Internet access before the first day of class (detailed
below)
plus a working knowledge of both e-mail and the world wide web, and of
the
software they use to access each. Basic web page experience would be a
help,
but if you are open to new experiences and willing to work with and
learn
from classmates and others, just check with me, and it will work. :-)
IMPORTANT
---> To
Do
After Registration: Please send
an
e-mail message to Sue_Espinoza@tamu-commerce.edu
from the e-mail address that you will be checking the most before our
class starts. The weekend before classes start, I will send out
an intro message to your university e-mail as well as to
any other address you send me now. After the semester starts, all
mail will go to your myLeo account.
Required Text, etc.:
There will be no 'text' for the class.
Online readings will take the place of a traditional text. If you do
not
already receive the T.H.E. Journal, you might want to visit the
website
(at http://www.thejournal.com/)
and sign up for a free subscription. The publication is available
online, so if you prefer to read it that way, that will work. Other
readings will be discussed in class. :-)
Hardware/Software Requirements: (must be
in
place before the first class meeting):
- You will need a reliable
working computer, and you will
need to know how to use it and either how to troubleshoot or how to
find help if there are problems with the computer. Knowing where
to go for help (manuals or people) is an essential computer attack
skill, isn't it? :-)
- Computer access to the Internet is a
necessity -- you must have access where you can get online to at least
check e-mail on a daily basis. Home access is a necessity.
For some activities high speed access will be helpful, so if you do
not have high-speed access at home, you may want to see if there is
another place that you may be able to get online at some points in the
semester. If you wish to use one of the university computer labs,
be
sure to check to see when the labs have open time. :-)
- Some activities will require
access to Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint. If you do not
have these, you might want to check to see where you might be able to
use them, when needed. Everyone will also need Adobe Acrobat
Reader, a free download
(access instructions will be in syllabus), as well as other free software that we will discuss
in class. :-)
