Donna Dunbar-Odom
Professor of English
Director of Graduate English Studies
Department of Literature and Languages
Texas A&M University-Commerce

Welcome to my website. I'm the person to talk to if you're interested in pursuing a graduate degree in English. I'm shamelessly proud of our program and what we have to offer.
Texas A&M-Commerce offers a Master's degree and a PhD in Written Discourse (Composition and Rhetoric) and Critical Literature (Literature). We also offer (or are preparing to offer) certificates in Teaching English as a Second Language, Children's Literature, and Creative Writing.
At this point, 100% of the people who earned PhDs with us have teaching jobs! Among the schools represented are Texas Woman's University, Texas A&M-Prairie View, Collin County Community College, Atlanta Christian College, and the University of Houston-Downtown.
My
scholarly and teaching interests are Composition and Literacy Studies and
Working Class Studies. Here's a copy of the cover of my book Defying the
Odds: Class and the Pursuit of Higher Literacy (SUNY Press, 2007).
Courses I teach:
English 680 - Reading Theory for English Teachers
English 101 and 102 - First-year writing courses
Phil 362 - Aesthetics
Eng 420 - Introduction to Literary Theory
Eng 520 - Literary Theory
Eng 509 - Genre (Memoir)
In Fall 2008, I'll be teaching Phil 362 and Eng 680 (online). I'll link to syllabi as soon as I have them done.
