CMLA (Collegiate Middle Level Association at Texas A&M University-Commerce) is open to all students who are seeking teacher certification in grades 4-8 and/or to any student who thinks they might at some point be interested in teaching grades 4-8.

  • Weekly meetings most Mondays at 3:00 in Ed. S. room 133

  • Frequent fundraiser lunches in Ed. South foyer - nachos, hot dogs, etc.

  • Raffle tickets sales - 4 Mavericks tickets

  • Host a Scholastic Book Fair April 28 in conjunction with the 2nd annual Bill Martin Symposium in the A&M-C MSC

  • Have several chapter meetings hosting guest speakers and other helpful middle level teacher resources

  • Send five officers/members to the CMLA National Retreat April 8-9 2006 in Columbus, Ohio

  • Essay contest for area middle school kids - prizes will be awarded

  • We sent 17 CMLA members to the National Middle School Conference, November 3-5. 2005 in Philadelphia, PA

  • October - Month of the Young Adolescent - sponsored essay contest - 97 applicants, all from 6th grade.  We gave away a first place prize of $75.00 and 2nd place of $25.00.  All applicants were given a free ice cream cone donated by Sonic.  The essay topic was .....talk about your favorite teacher and explain why they were your favorite......what qualities do good teachers possess?

  • Angel Tree - provided toys, clothing, etc. to Angels in conjunction with Cooper Headstart Program

  • Christmas Party!!

Some things that CMLA did in 2004:

  • We helped to send two middle level students (CMLA members) to Navigating the Waters of Change:  National Middle School Association’s 31st Annual Conference and Exhibit in Minneapolis, Minnesota …..November 4-6, 2004............

  • We hosted a very successful Scholastic Book Fair the week of October 25

  • Sent one middle-level student (president) to the National CMLA Convention in Columbus, Ohio (April, 2004)

  • Thanks to Dr. Gil Naizer (and some TxCETP funds) we sent 18 middle level students (CMLA members) to Converging in the Middle: The 29th Annual Conference of the Texas Middle School Association in Austin, Texas, February 26-28, 2004.

  • Sent three middle-level students to the National CMLA Convention in Columbus, Ohio (April, 2003)
