Some plans for CMLA for the rest of this Spring 2006:

• Weekly meetings most Mondays at 3:00 in Ed. S. room 133

• Frequent fundraiser lunches in Ed. South foyer - nachos, hot dogs, etc.

• Raffle tickets sales - 4 Mavericks tickets

• Host a Scholastic Book Fair April 28 in conjunction with the 2nd annual Bill Martin Symposium in the A&M-C MSC

• Have several chapter meetings hosting guest speakers and other helpful middle level teacher resources

• Send five officers/members to the CMLA National Retreat April 8-9 2006 in Columbus, Ohio

• Essay contest for area middle school kids - prizes will be awarded

• Sent 32 middle level students to the 31st Annual TMSA Conference in Galveston March 2-4, 2006  ...........we presented a session on how to begin and maintain a successful CMLA chapter...........travel funds provided by TxCETP - courtesy Dr. Gil Naizer............thanks Gil!!!!!

• New well-presented and informative CMLA scrapbook!!.......thanks, Lauren

Some things that CMLA did Fall 2005:

• Meetings most Wednesdays at 3:00 in Ed. S. room 131

• Weekly fundraiser lunches and a breakfast in Ed. South foyer - nachos, hot dogs, etc.

• Raffle tickets sales - 2 Mavericks tickets (won by friend of June Adkins ) and 2 Stars tickets (won by Joe Herrera)

• just for fun.........Fright Night at Six Flags over Texas - Saturday, October 15

• We now have CMLA t-shirts!!

• We sent 4 CMLA members to the 1st annual Texas State CMLA Conference at Baylor University in Waco Sept. 30 - Oct. 1

• Hosted a Scholastic Book Fair October 24-27

• Purchased another microwave for students' use to be kept in the first floor of Education South

• Set up and man a CMLA booth at A&M-C University Day  on October 29

• Help send some CMLA members to the Texas CMLA State Meeting at Baylor University in Waco Sept. 30-Oct. 1

• We sent 17 CMLA members to the National Middle School Conference, November 3-5. 2005 in Philadelphia, PA

• October - Month of the Young Adolescent - sponsored essay contest - 97 applicants, all from 6th grade.  We gave away a first place prize of $75.00 and 2nd place of $25.00.  All applicants were given a free ice cream cone donated by Sonic.  The essay topic was .....talk about your favorite teacher and explain why they were your favorite......what qualities do good teachers possess?

• Angel Tree - provided toys, clothing, etc. to Angels in conjunction with Cooper Headstart Program

• Christmas Party!!

Some things that CMLA did in 2004:

• We helped to send two middle level students (CMLA members) to Navigating the Waters of Change:  National Middle School Association’s 31st Annual Conference and Exhibit in Minneapolis, Minnesota …..November 4-6, 2004............

• We hosted a very successful Scholastic Book Fair the week of October 25

• Sent one middle-level student (president) to the National CMLA Convention in Columbus, Ohio (April, 2004)

• Thanks to Dr. Gil Naizer (and some TxCETP funds) we sent 18 middle level students (CMLA members) to Converging in the Middle: The 29th Annual Conference of the Texas Middle School Association in Austin, Texas, February 26-28, 2004.

• Hosted of Professional Development workshop open to all Texas A&M students entitled:  What principals look for in hiring a middle level teacher.  Guest speaker:  Marcia Alderman, Principal, Commerce Middle School, Commerce, Texas (April, 2003)
• Sent three middle-level students to the National CMLA Convention in Columbus, Ohio (April, 2003)
• Helped to send three middle-level students to the National Middle School Association Conference in Atlanta, Georgia (November, 2003)
